Here is a portrait of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in whose honour India celebrates Teachers’ Day on 5th September every year. He was an academic scholar, philosopher statesman who became Vice President and later President of India. 

It was his wish that instead of celebrating his birthday, India should celebrate it as a tribute to teachers on this day. Thus we have Teachers’ day celebrations all over India. A day when everyone acknowledges and celebrates their teachers and mentors. Being an educator this day is quite an overwhelming one for me.

This portrait is from the archives of Kalanidhi Photo Studio, most probably clicked by Narayan Rao Kulkarni. Again quite difficult to find the date but the internet dates it to the time when Dr. Radhakrishnan was Vice Chancellor and a teacher. Side portraits seem to be photographer’s favourites.
