House of Kalanidhi Photo Studio, Bijapur

Glad to share that during the year end visit to Bijapur, I could connect many dots and most importantly we located the house too where Narayan Kulkarni had created his photo studio and museum, where many dignitaries had paid a visit, where many locals had clicked their family portraits.

It is also the house where my mother was born and brought up. The family must have lived there as tenants from around the 1920s to the early 1980s. Apparently the rent was a mere 25 Indian rupees which was a lot back then.

Thanks to local heritage enthusiasts, we opened the house too. It is in a dilapidated state.

The house exterior is still beautiful so one can imagine the glory of its past and the hub of culture, politics, photography it was back then. Nana had an aesthetic sense which reflects in his photos and in the choice of the house too.

Here is a glimpse of the house…house of Kalanidhi Photo Studio where this collection was shaped and born.
