Learning ABC of Preservation for Archiving

Narayan Rao Kulkarni started his journey as a self taught photographer in 1920s. This means we are dealing with nearly 100 years old negatives and prints which have not been preserved in best conditions. So first thing we need to undertake is preserving them from further damage and later ensure long term cataloguing and preservation.

So I have started learning ABC of preliminary preservation – shifting them into Thermocol boxes filled with silica gel pouches and then intermittently changing silica gel pouches.

Slowly we will unravel his story and works through the clues, labels and envelopes he has left behind.
