My Nana – Narayan Rao Kulkarni had followed Gandhi right from Belgaum congress -1924 to Noakhali Peace March in 1946. There are close-ups of Gandhi which also show that he had access and permission to be in close proximity.
Here are two clicks – one of young Gandhi and the other of aged Gandhi – journey from being a young satyagrahi to Mahatma Gandhi who became an icon of peace and non-violence. Both these are part of the Kalanidhi Photo Archives collection.
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January. It must have made a deep impact on Narayan Rao Kulkarni. Most of his diaries are lost so we will never know. But these photos say a lot about both Gandhi and one of his lesser known photographers.
PS: Very rarely do we see leaders engrossed in writing these days or even in deep contemplation.
