I am shocked and stunned by the demise of table Maestro Zakir Hussain. I wanted to share the photos clicked by my Nana – Narayan Rao Kulkarni with him someday but didn’t realise life is unpredictable even for icons like him who seem immortal. He will always live on in the hearts of his admirers and music lovers. His in-person charisma, his passionate performance on stage, the way he made ubiquitous tabla speak to other instruments will be sorely missed.
I am glad I could attend his concerts ever since my undergraduate days when he looked younger but when I saw his photos clicked by my Nana – probably he was just in his teens – I was awestruck. He didn’t let time dim his energy, passion and enthusiasm even a bit. Rather like an old wine, he became a global iconic charismatic performer with more finesse.
He certainly leaves a huge void. We will miss you, Ustaad Zakir Hussain.
